10 Ways to help exam stress

It’s exam season! And we all know what that means.. stress, stress and more stress! But don’t worry too much, because all of us at Keep Your Head can help out with some tips and tricks to keep the nerves, worry and stress at bay.

1.       Remember what makes you feel relaxed and helps you to de-stress. This will be something that you enjoy, it could be anything from painting your nails to playing football or taking a long bubble bath, the choice is yours!


2.       Know that all you can do is try your best. Exams aren’t everything and there is life after exams. Regardless of how you think you're going to do in your exams, let yourself know that life does not end with exams, and that you ARE going to be okay, you might not think it now, but you are.


3.       Don’t compare your abilities to others. You’re unique and thinking you need to be just like everyone else will take away what makes you, you! And you’re pretty great.


4.       Try to fit in breathing exercises at least once a day and when you feel extremely anxious and stressed. By doing breathing exercises you can calm your body down and focus your thoughts back to what you need to do.


5.       Have snacks whilst you’re revising. These help keep you going whilst you’re cramming and allow you to take small breaks now and again.


6.       Get some sleep! Staying up late might seem cool to your friends, but you’ll benefit so much more from getting a good night sleep and resting up!


7.       Set yourself realistic goals. If you’re just starting revision for the day, don’t set yourself the goal of revising every single subject in the day because it just isn’t going to happen!


8.       If you start panicking before, during or after an exam, take six deep breaths, have some water and re-focus your thoughts and go back to the task at hand, breaking it down into manageable parts.


9.       Find a revision style that suits you. Working alone works for some people and working in a group suits people too. Some people find that using colourful mind maps helpful whereas some people find lists helpful, it’s up to you!


10.   Know when to ask for help. It’s important that you know that it’s okay to not be okay. And if you’re struggling and are finding it hard to cope, then you should ask for help! This can be help from professionals, family or your friends.

And remember, don’t let exams take away your enjoyment from your spare time! Find time to do those things that you love and enjoy as this will help you relax! We hope your exams go well and that these tips and tricks help you out!
